Congratulations, Class of 2017!

Quinnipiac conferred 1,709 bachelor’s degrees across six schools and colleges — Arts and Sciences, Business, Communications, Engineering, Health Sciences, and Nursing. The ceremonies were held on May 20 and 21 at the TD Bank Sports Center on the York Hill Campus.

9 a.m. - College of Arts and Sciences

John Geanakoplos, professor of economics at Yale University, will deliver the Commencement address to undergraduates who have completed their bachelor’s degrees in the College of Arts and Sciences. Honorary degrees will go to Irish Sinn Féin MLA Máirtín Ó Muilleoir and Conor Kenny, managing director of Kenny’s Bookshop in Galway, Ireland.

1 p.m. - School of Business

Hap Klopp, founder and CEO of The North Face, will address the undergraduate business graduates. Frank Casanova II, ’80, a senior director for Apple Inc., will receive an honorary degree.

5 p.m. - School of Health Sciences

Mary Leighton, executive director of Camp No Limits, will speak to the health sciences students earning bachelor’s degrees.

Michele Norris, former NPR host and special correspondent and founder of The Race Card Project, will deliver the Commencement address to students in the School of Communications. Armen Keteyian, a correspondent for “60 Minutes Sports” and “60 Minutes,” will receive an honorary degree.

1 p.m. - School of Nursing

Mary Blankson, chief nursing officer at Community Health Center, will address undergraduate nursing graduates.

5 p.m. - School of Engineering

Greg Oneglia, vice chairman of O&G Industries, will address the School of Engineering graduates.

The ticket registration link was sent to all eligible students via their Quinnipiac email on Tuesday, April 4. Eligible students also can access the link via Blackboard under Organizations. 

The number of tickets per graduate for each ceremony is as follows:

  • College of Arts and Sciences: 7
  • School of Business: 6
  • School of Communications: 8
  • School of Engineering: 8
  • School of Health Sciences: 6
  • School of Nursing: 8

The ceremony will be simulcast in the hockey arena adjacent to the ceremony site. Tickets are not required for the simulcast in the hockey arena. Both the ceremony and simulcast arenas are in the same building and connected by a common lobby.

Graduating students are not required to have a ticket. Children age two and older are required to have a ticket. Please note that there will be no additional tickets available. If there is a need for more tickets, students should also ask fellow classmates who may not be using all of their tickets.

Handicapped accessible seating will be available. Tickets for this area can be obtained beginning at 12 p.m. on April 4 by calling the Ticket Office at 203-582-3905.

Caps and Gowns

Caps and gowns

If you pre-ordered your cap and gown and did not pick it up during the Commencement Fair, please go to the bookstore location (Mount Carmel or North Haven) you selected for pick up during regular store hours. If you did not place an order online, please go to the Mount Carmel Bookstore to pick up a cap and gown package.

If you would like your cap and gown shipped to you, please call the bookstore at 203-582-8431 and leave a message with your name and phone number. Someone will return your call for full shipping information. Please note: the cap and gown are free of charge but there is a $10 fee for standard shipping (5-7 days) and $18 for overnight shipping.

You may keep the academic robe, cap, hood and tassel. They are not to be returned to the bookstore.

Cords and cards

Cords representing Quinnipiac-recognized academic honors societies and the University Honors Program are permitted. Gold cords representing the academic honors of summa cum laude, magna cum laude and cum laude will be issued during lineup on the day of Commencement.

Commencement programs listing graduates' names will be distributed at each ceremony.

A professional photographer from Grad Images will take pictures of each student as the diploma is presented; copies will be available for purchase. Graduates can preregister their own email or an email address of their friends and family and will be contacted as soon as their photos are available for online viewing and ordering.

Flowers


Flowers will be available for purchase for the convenience of family and friends.

Receptions

Receptions

Following each ceremony, light snacks and beverages will be served at a reception in the Rocky Top Student Center on the York Hill Campus.

Consistent with university policy, no alcohol may be brought to or consumed on campus during the ceremony. To maintain the dignity of the proceedings, and in recognition of the importance of the day in the lives of our graduates and their families, we ask for your assistance with respect to our alcoholic beverage policy. Thank you for your cooperation.

Parents reception

Parents and their graduates are invited to attend a reception on Friday, May 19, from 5-7 p.m. on the Mount Carmel Campus quad. In the event of rain, the reception will be held in the Recreation Center and Burt Kahn Court. The reception provides graduates and their parents with an opportunity to come together with faculty and administration as well as their classmates. Light food, wine, beer, soda and water will be available. 

There are no tickets and advance reservation is not required for this event.

Safety

Safety

Maintaining the safety and security of everyone taking part in our Commencement ceremonies at Quinnipiac University is of the utmost importance. To that end, certain items are prohibited at the TD Bank Sports Center. No alcoholic beverages, coolers, backpacks, large handbags, metal folding seat cushions, seats that clamp onto bleachers, noisemaking devices, mace or similar substances, signs, sticks or poles or weapons of any type are permitted. Neither graduates nor their guests may bring any of these items into the ceremonies.

Guests will be subject to visual inspection of person, bags and clothing that can conceal prohibited items. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Parking

If you or a member of your party has a disability that requires special parking accommodations, please notify the Public Safety officers when you arrive at the TD Bank Sports Center. They will direct you to handicap parking. Please note, Public Safety also operates golf carts and shuttles to and from the parking area and the arena and reception areas.

Lineup Information

Lineup information

All candidates for degrees must report to the floor of the hockey arena one hour prior to the start of their ceremony, otherwise we cannot guarantee your participation in the ceremony. Degree candidates must be dressed in their caps and gowns. When you check in, you will receive a numbered card that indicates your place in the alphabetical lineup. The card also has your name on it. Keep this card with you, as you will be required to present it to the dean, who will read your name aloud as you enter the platform area.

The ceremony processional begins 15 minutes prior to the start of each ceremony.
