Introduction

Commencement is an exciting time. We look forward to welcoming you as you celebrate with your graduate!

Ceremony Overview

All ceremonies will take place at Lender Court at the People’s United Center on the York Hill Campus, located at 305 Sherman Avenue in Hamden, Connecticut. Individuals without tickets are invited to watch the simulcast in the hockey arena — which is located just across the lobby of the People’s United Center. Each ceremony will also be broadcast live from commencement.qu.eduFacebook and YouTube.

Graduates and their guests are invited to a reception immediately following each ceremony.

Friday, May 17

  • 5 to 7 p.m. – Parents Reception, Rocky Top Student Center

Saturday, May 18

  • 9 a.m. – School of Health Sciences, School of Nursing
  • 2 p.m. – College of Arts and Sciences, School of Communications

Sunday, May 19

  • 9 a.m. - School of Business, School of Engineering

All ceremonies will take place at Lender Court at the People’s United Center on the York Hill Campus, located at 305 Sherman Avenue in Hamden, Connecticut. 

Guests with tickets will enter the basketball arena on the concourse level (row 14) by sections 101 and 116.

Lender Court

Individuals without tickets are invited to watch the simulcast in the hockey arena — which is located just across the lobby of the People’s United Center. Each ceremony will also be broadcast live from commencement.qu.eduFacebook and YouTube.

Graduates and their guests are invited to a reception immediately following each ceremony.

Commencement Day Order of Events

Doors will open to the People’s United Center one hour before the start time of each ceremony.

Parking


Parking for Commencement will be available at the York Hill Campus parking areas. Public Safety personnel will be on hand to direct guests to the appropriate parking areas, including handicap-accessible parking areas.

Programs, photography, flowers and gifts


Commencement programs listing graduates' names will be distributed at each ceremony.

A professional photographer will take pictures of each student as the diploma is presented; copies will be available for purchase. Graduates can preregister their own email or an email address of their friends and family and will be contacted as soon as their photos are available for online viewing and ordering.

Flowers and university merchandise will be available for purchase in the lobby of the People’s United Center.

Ceremony


The processional will begin 15 minutes before the ceremony start time. All ceremonies are expected to last 60 to 90 minutes.

Post-ceremony reception


Following each ceremony, light snacks and beverages will be served at a reception in the Rocky Top Student Center on the York Hill Campus. All guests in the basketball and hockey arenas are invited to attend.

Consistent with university policy, no alcohol may be brought to or consumed on campus during the ceremony. To maintain the dignity of the proceedings, and in recognition of the importance of the day in the lives of our graduates and their families, we ask for your assistance with respect to our alcoholic beverage policy. Thank you for your cooperation.

Keynote Speakers

Health Sciences and Nursing Ceremony

Bryan Donahue, a transplant recipient, motivational speaker, author and veteran, will address students who are receiving undergraduate degrees from the schools of health sciences and nursing at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 18.

Arts and Sciences and Communications Ceremony

Poet and author Reginald Dwayne Betts will address students who are receiving undergraduate degrees from the College of Arts and Sciences and School of Communications, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 18.

Business and Engineering Ceremony

Javier Polit, president and chief information officer of Procter & Gamble, will address students who are receiving undergraduate degrees from the schools of business and engineering, at 9 a.m. on Sunday, May 19.

Travel and Accommodations

Please keep in mind, several area universities are holding their Commencement ceremonies on the same weekend as Quinnipiac. For this reason, please allow additional travel time when planning your arrival for Commencement.

Guests with Disabilities

Parking


If you or a member of your party has a disability that requires special parking accommodations, please notify the Public Safety officers when you arrive at the People’s United Center. They will direct you to handicap-accessible parking. Please note, Public Safety also operates golf carts and shuttles to and from the parking area and the arena and reception areas.

Tickets and seating


Handicap-accessible accessible seating will be available. Further information will be sent to eligible graduates in a ticket email in the spring semester.

Parents Reception

Parents and their graduates are invited to attend a reception on Friday, May 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Rocky Top Student Center on the York Hill Campus. The reception is social in nature and provides graduates and their parents with an opportunity to come together with faculty and administration as well as their classmates. Light food, wine, beer, soda and water will be available.

There are no tickets required for this event.

Photography

A professional photographer will take pictures of each student as the diploma is presented; copies will be available for purchase. Safety

Maintaining the safety and security of everyone taking part in our Commencement ceremonies at Quinnipiac University is of the utmost importance. To that end, certain items are prohibited at the People’s United Center. No alcoholic beverages, coolers, backpacks, large handbags, metal folding seat cushions, seats that clamp onto bleachers, noisemaking devices, mace or similar substances, signs, sticks or poles or weapons of any type are permitted. Neither graduates nor their guests may bring any of these items into the ceremonies.

Guests will be subject to visual inspection of person, bags and clothing that can conceal prohibited items.
